Drivers should be aware that the holiday season is upon us, and this is a period of high activity for the base deer population. The bucks are getting excited and prancing for mates and are highly active during dusk and early morning hours when visibility in vehicles are most difficult. The primary areas to exercise precautions are approaching the Main gate and West gate entry points. Additionally, pay extra attention to those areas where trees or shrubs limit visibility near the roadway.

In the last two months, two deer have been accidentally hit and have died on base. If for some reason you hit one of these creatures or discover an injured one, you must contact Security Forces to make a report of the incident. Also, Civil Engineering Customer Service will dispatch someone to properly remove the deer and clear the roadway.

Please be mindful of wildlife while driving on base and take the necessary precautions for your own safety. Have a happy and safe holiday season. For any questions or concerns, contact the Installation Natural Resources Manager at 298-5746.
