    XLer of the week: 1st Lt. Zachary Turek

    First Lt. Zachary Turek, 86th Flying Training Squadron instructor pilot, was chosen by wing leadership to be the “XLer of the Week”, Sept. 2, 2019, at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas. The “XLer” award, presented by Col. Lee Gentile, 47th Flying Training Wing commander, is given to those who consistently make outstanding contributions to their unit and the Laughlin mission.

    What drives you?

    I have lost count of the number of times I have been asked the question “what drives you to succeed?” When I was young, it was the need to be the best, the need to be no. 1, the need to be praised by friends and family.

    Staff Sgt. Samantha Scheinost, 47th Operations Support Squadron Host Aviation Resource Management NCO in charge, was chosen by wing leadership to be the “XLer” of the week, for the week of July 29, 2019, at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas. The “XLer” award, presented by Col. Lee Gentile, 47th Flying Training Wing commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Brian Lewis, 47th Operations Group superintendent, is given to those who consistently make outstanding contributions to their unit and the Laughlin mission.

Christopher Johnson, honor guard NCO in charge, at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, enjoys how his special duty continues to broaden his perspective of the U.S. Air Force and his range of experience.     XLer of the Week: Tech. Sgt. Michele Lazurka

    Tech. Sgt. Michele Lazurka, 47th Medical Operations Squadron flight medicine office manager, was chosen by wing leadership to be the “XLer” of the week, for the week of July 8, 2019, at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas. The “XLer” award, presented by Col. Todd Dyer, 47th Flying Training Wing vice commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Brian Lewis, 47th Operations Group superintendent, is given to those who consistently make outstanding contributions to their unit and the Laughlin mission.
  • During PCS season and on graduation weekend, the Laughlin Manor’s pace of business picks up considerably. Abby Salas, 47th Force Support Squadron custodial supervisor, does not mind the extra work it adds to her plate. “We enjoy preparing the rooms for the students awaiting training and new permanent party members coming to Laughlin,” Salas said. “They may stay with us for a while before their houses or dorms are ready.     Airman’s Spotlight: Abby Salas

Zackery III, 47th Flying Training Wing command chief master sergeant, from Chattanooga, Tennessee, Zackery has served in the Air Force nearly 23 years, gathering numerous values as well as experience during that time.     Chief Zackery joins Team XL

    Chief Master Sgt. Robert L. Zackery III, 47th Flying Training Wing command chief master sergeant, is one of Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas’, newest leaders, and he is excited to be working with the members of Team XL. Being a Tactical Air Control Party (TAC-P), and having deployed and lived with the U.S. Army, U.S Navy and coalition countries, Zackery brings a diverse array of combat, joint and international experience to the table for the 47th Flying Training Wing.

    New commander takes the 47th OG under her wing

    The 47th Operations Group welcomed its new commander during an assumption of command ceremony on Nov. 27, 2018 at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas. U.S. Air Force Col. Carey Jones assumed command of 47th OG, becoming its first female commander.
