    New virtual reality platform comes to Laughlin

    Inside the network communications building of the 47th Communications Squadron at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, all sorts of technical projects and doodads are either being created for the first time or fixed to working order.

    Airman’s Spotlight: Senior Master Sgt. John Penland

    Since the inception of the modern cyberspace and subsequent concepts of cyber warfare, the U.S. Air Force has led the charge in defense of this domain for the United States. It’s a domain that the 47th Communications Squadron’s superintendent, Senior Master Sgt. John Penland, has suited up in ABUs and defended for more than 20 years. From picking up the telephone to assist a customer in setting up their email inbox, to setting up wireless access points in remote, hostile territory, one could say Penland has seen and accomplished a lot.
  • The “Airman’s Spotlight,” is a section dedicated to showcasing Laughlin’s Airmen with a prompt they answer candidly. The Airman’s Spotlight is open to all Airmen of any rank, and is selected at random. This week’s selection is Senior Airman John McGovern, 47th Medical Operations Squadron aerospace physiology technician. McGovern talked about how aerospace physiology exists to support the pilots of Laughlin not only during training, but at any point in their career.

    Cyber awareness week informs, educates

    With the domination of online platforms like social media, mobile banking, and targeted advertisements, a person’s cyber footprint is much larger than one might think. During the week of Oct. 23, Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas’ Airmen and base personnel had an opportunity to further their education and awareness of their personal and business online presence.
