    While attending the 2020 Fiesta of Flight Air and Space expo at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, airshow-goers are scheduled to also have the opportunity to stop by the science, technology, engineering and mathematics displays on the flightline.

    Team XL takes on active shooter exercise

    Laughlin personnel participated in an active shooter training at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, July 22, 2019. A simulated suspect barricaded himself in a small room and tested the defenders’ ability to respond to a hostage situation. Exercises like this one are aimed at bolstering crisis readiness and response capabilities.
  • Many U.S. Air Force careers are rooted in routine and rigid processes. For Senior Airman Benjamin Valmoja, 47th Flying Training Wing public affairs photojournalist, however, his job is about visiting work centers and talking to Airmen—all to tell Laughlin’s story. “It’s my job to paint an accurate picture of the base for Del Rio, the Air Force, and all of America,” he said. “I network to find stories that get people’s attention, create a positive image, and write that story for everyone to see.” His proficiency and willingness to perfect his craft earned Valmoja the USAF’s Public Affairs Communications Excellence award. Though Valmoja earned the award, he recognizes his team helps shape the professional, creative Airman he is. “I’m super excited to have gotten this award, but anybody in my shop could have gotten it,” he said. “Public Affairs doesn’t spend too much time in the spotlight, so I think anybody in Public Affairs is deserving, and I’m grateful to have such an awesome team.” (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Daniel Hambor)

    ‘Fiesta of Flight,’ tailgating, gate operations, and directions

    Laughlin’s ‘Fiesta of Flight,’ featuring the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, is 11 days away. In preparation for the event, community members are encouraged to take advantage of the tailgating area. Below is information on the tailgating area, gate operations, as well as driving directions.
  • During the ‘Fiesta of Flight’ open house and airshow at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas on May 12, 2018, families attending with children of any age can partake in fun games and attractions located next to the Air Traffic Control tower. “By having the kid’s zone, it makes it a more family-friendly environment where they would want to spend the entire day,” said Victoria Barlow, 47th Force Support Squadron community programs specialist. “Families could come to the airshow, watch the airplanes while the kids run around in the kid’s zone, grab lunch, and go back to the kid’s zone and still watch the airplanes.”
