Little remains of building 358, the base’s old fitness center, after construction crews demolished and cleared the site of rubble at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, May 10, 2013. The old fitness center was replaced by a new facility, and the decision was made to destroy the old gym as part of the Air Force’s goal of reducing overall utilities and maintenance costs by 20 percent by the year 2020. Laughlin has selected 24 buildings, whose original work centers can be consolidated elsewhere, for demolition, saving $377,000 annually as part of the cost conscious culture.
