LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --
Most Air Force work environments have a large number of enlisted members with a smaller number of commissioned officers.
Staff Sgt. Kevin Vaughn, 434th Flying Training Squadron Aviation Resource Management NCO in-charge, works hand-in-hand with student and instructor pilots, leaving him on the opposite end of the spectrum.
“Working with pilots is definitely a different dynamic,” Vaughn said. “Even though the job is very demanding, we make sure the pilots get all the training they need to perform at the best level.”
Keeping flying records current, updating the daily flying schedule and stepping pilots to their aircraft are some important tasks to ensure pilots graduate on time.
“There is a chance that if a pilot flies noncurrent on training and something happens to them, there are big consequences,” Vaughn said.
Vaughn’s close relationship with commissioned officers equips him with the attention to detail and precision to ensure student and instructor pilots takeoff from the runway with no discrepancies.
