Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, is set to host multiple aerial performances, concessionaires, static displays and more at the ‘Fiesta of Flight’ Open House and Air Show May 12, 2018.

Being Laughlin’s first show in nearly a decade, the base spent more than two years of planning with the continuous support from the community. The ‘Fiesta of Flight’ is prepared to house over 35 aircraft, including 16 performances.

“Laughlin and Del Rio are one; therefore, this air show is not just Laughlin's show, but the entire community's,” said 1st Lt. Mahalia Frost, 47th Flying Training Wing chief of public affairs. “The city has united to support this event and it would have been impossible without them.”

Along with the aerial performances, the ‘Fiesta of Flight’ will also have different concessions like food trucks, a kid’s zone, tailgate area, and more.

“Air shows are great events for community members to get a better sense of what makes our Air Force unique,” Frost said. “As a military organization we're unable to fulfill our mission without the support of our community members, and events like this pose an opportunity for us to not only showcase some of our military assets, but also provide firsthand observation of the evolution of airpower, by having some older warbirds present.

In order to finalize training in preparation for the resumption of their 2018 show season, the U.S. Air Demonstration squadron, also known as the Thunderbirds announced last week they would be withdrawing their act from the Fiesta of Flight air show.

With the air show just around the corner, all the necessary precautions have been taken to ensure all attendees have a great time and are safe.

“Our job on Saturday, is to make sure that everyone has a good time and that we execute the air show and open house safely,” said Maj. David Brandt, 47th Flying Training Wing open house director.
