LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- U.S. Air Force Maj. Brian Cockroft assumed command of the 47th Force Support Squadron during an assumption of command ceremony at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, June 8, 2026.
Col. Peter Joo, 47th Mission Support Group commander, presided over the ceremony and welcomed Cockroft to Laughlin and the 47th MSG.
“We all look forward to working with you as you take the FSS to new heights,” said Joo. “The squadron command is a tough job, but I can assure you it is a job that is immensely fulfilling and rewarding.”
Cockroft now assumes command of the 47th FSS, overseeing all quality-of-life operations through administration and knowledge operations, casualty support, education and training services, family support, professional military education and wing mentoring. Prior to assuming command, Cockroft served as a ROTC Instructor at Troy University, Alabama.
“My goal over the next two years is to invest in the men and women of the Force Support Squadron in order to breathe life into this facility,” said Cockroft. “The expectations are very simple: Number one, be a good human being, and number two, invest in people through service. I will be there with you. I will be there when it's fun, and I will be responsible when it's not.”
The 47th FSS maintains facilities and events on and off Laughlin AFB. This includes areas like the Losano Fitness Center, the Southwinds Marina, the Auto Hobbyshop, Silver Wings and the XL Lounge. In addition, FSS provides community services, such as in-processing, ID Cards, Outdoor Recreation opportunities, childcare facilities, and deployment support.
