XL defenders tryout for San Antonio Basic SWAT course
The 47th Security Forces Squadron held tryouts Sept. 25, 2019, at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, to determine which of their Airmen are selected to attend the San Antonio Basic Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) course. Tryouts consisted of a physical fitness test, a rigorous workout, a timed ruck march in full gear, and finished off with a Combat Arms Training and Maintenance marksmanship challenge.

Grow Your Own training brings couple to Laughlin’s flightline
Two Laughlin maintainers, a husband and wife team, are both a product of a different facet of the Grow Your Own Program. Grow Your Own is a program which has brought more than 300 maintainers into the 47th Maintenance Directorate throughout its 30 year history.

Exchange Senior Enlisted Advisor Focuses on Serving Airmen at Laughlin AFB
Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Luis Reyes, Army & Air Force Exchange Service’s senior enlisted advisor, is making it his mission to ensure Airmen and families at Laughlin Air Force Base have the products they need, whether shopping in-store or online. During his visit to Laughlin on March 26, 2019, Reyes toured Exchange facilities and met with 47th Mission Support Group Superintendent Chief Master Sgt. Ronald Harper to address how the 123-year-old Department of Defense retailer can better serve Airmen.

Laughlin cyclist returns to racing after hit and run
Albert Garcia, a controller in the 47th Operations Support Squadron, proved everyone wrong when he competed in the 208-mile No Country for Old Men ultra bicycle race Oct. 12. When Garcia got run over on his bicycle June 9, 2015 by a hit-and-run driver, it was supposed to be a day that stopped many things for him.
