LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --
As people gather around the table this Thanksgiving, it is important that they keep fire safety at the front of their minds while preparing turkeys and delicious sides.
According to the National Fire Prevention Association, Thanksgiving is the leading day for home fires involving cooking equipment.
By following these easy fire safety tips, people can ensure that the Thanksgiving holiday will be a safe one.
-
When cooking, stay near the stovetop and oven, and check on the turkey frequently.
-
With extended family visiting and more children in the house, NFPA recommends a three-foot children-free zone around the cooking area.
-
For a small grease stovetop fire, smother the flames by sliding a lid over the associated pan and turning off the burner. Leave the pan covered until it is completely cooled.
-
For an oven fire, turn off the heat and keep the door closed.
Remember, in case of emergency, call 911.
