LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Second Lieutenant Dana Perodeau, International Military Students officer, was chosen by wing leadership to be this week’s “XLer,” Aug. 28.
The “XLer” award, presented by Col. Michelle Pryor, 47th Flying Training Wing vice commander, is presented to those who consistently make outstanding contributions to their unit and Laughlin’s mission.
Perodeau, as an IMS officer, has a primary goal of ensuring the proper and professional training of international student pilots. Part of their training is an initial course designed to break down barriers between nationalities; training that Perodeau helps provide.
“International students have to overcome communication difficulties, because of that they get an additional 10 hours to overcome language and cultural barriers,” Perodeau said. “When they run out of hours, I work with [the Air Force Security Assistance Training Squadron] to acquire additional training hours based on their probability of completing training.”
He also led 40 international students from five different nations in their multi-million dollar pilot training, even helping six of the pilots graduate on time.
“It’s very rewarding to know that some of the future leaders of our allied nation’s come through my office and I get to know them on a personal level,” said Perodeau. “I take pride in making sure that they are taken care of so they can focus on pilot training.”
When Royal Saudi Air Force Maj. Gen. Khalid Mohammed Al Saqally, Headquarters RSAF training director, toured Laughlin, he helped organize the day’s events, ensuring a smooth-running tour.
“It’s an honor to be recognized, but I’m most happy for the Saudi students who were able to meet with one of their senior leaders,” Perodeau said. “They all came out of the meeting inspired and motivated to return home with their wings.”
For helping his wing create a memorable pilot training experience for not only the U.S. Air Force but also allied nations, 2nd Lieutenant Dana Perodeau was awarded this week’s “XLer”.
