A week-long, national event is coming to Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, starting Oct. 23.

Cyber Awareness Week, an event dedicated to raising awareness for internet security and cyber visibility is scheduled to feature events such as a network security workshop, a course on data destruction and internet safety lessons for children.

“We have events going on for all audiences because cyber security impacts everyone,” said Grace Cannon, 47th Communications Squadrons wing information systems security manager. “Everything we do now is digital. Every bit of our lives is intertwined with the internet, and we’re hoping to show everybody how to be aware and protect themselves, and maybe even help show some people the great career opportunities in cyber security.”

The week-long event will also feature a “robotics rodeo,” a demonstration of various robots from professional, task orientated machines to hobby creations that could be made at home.

“The rodeo is going to be our big finale,” Cannon said. “We have the Lackland explosive ordinance disposal team, the Border Patrol showing their robots, local schools with their robots on display. It’s a robotic car show open to everyone and their robots, and we’re really excited for it.”

This event, designed to be both fun and informative, according to Cannon, is open to anyone who has base access.

“We’ve been practicing repeatedly what information we’re highlighting and trying to get out,” said Jeff Scott, 47th CS flight director. “I highly recommend attending this event to learn about real threats out on the internet and to get some really good information.”
