LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Airman 1st Class Renato Menchaca, 85th Flying Training Squadron aviation resource manager, was chosen by wing leadership to be the “XLer” of the week, for the week of May 14, 2018, at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas.
The “XLer” award, presented by Col. Charlie Velino, 47th Flying Training Wing commander, is given to those who consistently make outstanding contributions to their unit and the Laughlin mission.
Menchaca, a native of Chicago, Illinois, earned the squadron “Airman of the Quarter” award for stepping up during his NCO in charge’s absence and was able to provide valuable training to team members.
“It’s very important to keep the Airmen’s training on track in times like that because we’re put in charge of lives and we want to make sure they’re safe to go,” Menchaca said.
He was also able to coordinate and help advance Airmen in his unit to level five upgrade training six months ahead of schedule.
“It’s a great help to get ahead of the game and get those important tasks we have to do on a day-to-day basis.” Menchaca said.
Menchaca invested 16 man hours to correct missing database tables ensuring 198 member’s profiles were recreated.
“We get over a hundred students sometimes and having to keep their records current and up-to-date is important for them to even graduate,” Menchaca said.
Menchaca’s invaluable effort and time put into his team, helping ensure mission readiness and stepping up as leader in the absence of one, is what earned him the “XLer of the week.”
