With the 4th of July holiday fast approaching it's important to remember that the use of fireworks and theatrical pyrotechnics, flash pots, sparklers, etc., is prohibited on base without written approval by the installation commander.

A copy of this approval must be forwarded to the Fire Prevention Office no later than five days before the event, in accordance with Laughlin Air Force Base Instruction 32-2001 - Chapter 3.2.

The restricted use of fireworks is required to prevent wild land fires. The local vegetation is already drying out despite the recent rain fall, and temperatures are expected to reach the 100s over the next two weeks. Additionally, Val Verde County is still under a burn ban, prohibiting ground fires and outdoor burning.

The city of Del Rio is having a fireworks display as part of this year's "4th on the Creek" celebration. Details can be found at www.cityofdelrio.com/index.aspx?nid=548
