Laughlin's ninth annual Adventure Race is set to begin at the T-6 Weather Hangar May 11.

This year's race will begin with a four mile run across Laughlin followed by a 23-mile bike ride to Lake Amistad and will conclude with teams boarding rafts to navigate a mile-long course at Laughlin's Southwinds Marina. Mystery events are planned for throughout the course to add additional challenges for competing athletes.

"In years past, the Adventure Race has challenged both mind and body," said Capt. Nicholas Bozo, 87th Flying Training Squadron and one of the Adventure Race planners. "This year will be a lot more physical because that is what people asked for."

Competitors can sign up for the event in one of three divisions: insane, extreme and relay. Insane is for single person teams and registration costs $100. Extreme is for four person teams and costs $140, and relay is for five to eight person teams and costs $180.

Each team must provide their own bikes and biking gear, such as helmets, eye protection and team vehicles. Rafts, paddles and life jackets will be provided for all teams at the marina. There will be water stations throughout the course, but teams are encouraged to bring their own water and snacks with them.

Teams will meet May 10 at Club XL between 5 and 8 p.m. for a registration expo to pick up T-shirts and meet race sponsors while enjoying a spaghetti dinner. The race officially kicks off May 11 at 8 a.m.

"It's a challenging, team-building event," said Bozo. "It's a really fun event supported by the base and community. Challenge yourself, and have a good time while you're at it!"

Registration ends May 3 and is completed online at www.laughlinservices.com. For more information, or to volunteer, contact Bozo at 298-4934 or Laughlin Outdoor Recreation at 298-5830.
