One hundred and eight boxes of various Girl Scout cookies along with handmade thank you cards were packaged and sent to deployed Team XL members, by Girl Scout Troop 1168 on March 21.

Troop 1168, all daughters of Laughlin personnel, has been supporting Laughlin's mission of deploying mission-ready airmen for the past four years.

"We just hope we are having a positive effect on the morale of our troops," said Kelly Demers, one of Troop 1168's troop leaders. "Although we can't send the common favorite Thin Mints because they melt, we just want to let our airmen know that we are grateful for everything they do for us."

Members of Team XL and Del Rio helped support the cost of all the boxes being sent out. Also, Troop 1168 got help mailing the boxes of cookies from Laughlin Family Housing, who purchased all postage necessary for sending the packages.

Another member on base who supports this effort is Master Sgt. Dorothy Thomas, 47th Force Support Squadron Airman Family Readiness Center NCO, by getting the addresses of the deployed airman.

"This is a great project from Troop 1168," said Thomas. "Anything we can do to remind our airmen that we care for them and their families is wonderful."

Troop 1168 is comprised of 25 girls ranging from kindergarten to eighth grade. Scouts are included in every aspect of this project from selling cookies, making thank you cards, and helping pack the boxes.

"Volunteering to make a difference is very rewarding," said Skye Brabson, Troop 1168 cadet. "We hope that getting the cookies brings joy to the airmen."
