47th MDG offers a series of prevention classes

Each month the 47th Medical Group offers a series of prevention classes open to all base personnel at no charge ranging in topics from baby care to stress management classes.

The events scheduled for November are:

OB orientation and bundles for babies

The class is designed to provide information about what to expect when you're expecting. The focus is upon the first trimester, although some information about all stages of pregnancy and delivery is presented. Dads are highly encouraged to attend. Even though this class is mandatory for all pregnant active duty members, it is highly recommended for everyone. "Bundles for Babies" is included in coordination with the Laughlin Airman and Family Readiness Center and lunch is provided.

The class is scheduled to take place Nov. 6 from 8:30 am to noon at the clinic.

Anger management

A two-hour class providing education on non-violent methods of problem-solving, identifying skills for managing anger in provocative situations, and helping develop alternative strategies for dealing with angry feelings. This class is only offered quarterly.

The class is scheduled to take place Nov. 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the clinic.

Baby care basics

This class will guide soon-to-be parents in caring for their newborn. Handouts will be provided and dads are encouraged to attend. This is a two-hour class. The class is scheduled to take place Nov. 13 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the clinic.

Third trimester and labor class

This class is designed to identify what to expect in the third trimester, the onset of labor, delivery and the postpartum period. Handouts will be provided and dads are encouraged to attend. The class is scheduled to take place Nov. 20 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Laughlin Clinic.

Couples communication

An exciting and interactive workshop designed for all ages and stages of relationship. Whether a couple is engaged, recently married or has been married for many years, there is always something new to learn and aspects of their relationship to explore.

The class is scheduled to take place Nov. 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the clinic.

Stress management class

This course is designed to help identify triggers of stress and help you learn appropriate relaxation and visualization skills to handle stress.

The class is scheduled to take place Nov. 27 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the clinic.
