Laughlin comes out for MWS day

LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The 47th Operations Group hosted a Major Weapons Systems Day here March 24, that allowed the Laughlin community to come out and see different aircraft in the Air Force's inventory.

The aircraft on hand were the A-10 Thunderbolt II, RC-135V/W Rivet Joint, B-1B Lancer, M-28, Dornier DO-328, MC-130W Dragon Spear, C-130J Super Hercules and UH-1N Huey.

The event was designed to give base personnel a chance to see firsthand the past, present and future of Air Force aviation and while allowing student pilots a first-hand look at aircraft they may fly upon graduation.

Aside from getting an up-close look at the aircraft here, guest speakers from Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Air Force Special Operations Command discussed future upgrades to Air Force aircraft and the mission and lifestyle of AFSOC pilots. Additionally, Lockheed Martin had an F-35 Lightning II joint strike fighter simulator at the event.

The day's events concluded with a barbecue dinner and live entertainment with a keynote address by retired Gen. William Looney, former Air Education Training Command commander, to visiting aircrew and industry partners who were in attendance.
