Laughlin's annual adventure race is back and is scheduled to kick off April 21 at the Weather Hangar here.

Adventure Race VIII will include a 30-mile bike ride, seven mile run, a rafting course and a mystery event that will be announced at the event.

Competitors can choose between two different race divisions to participate in: relay and extreme. The relay consists of five-to-eight team members while extreme consists of four member teams. Relay team members will swap out with each other during the race, while extreme team members must complete the entire course.

"It's a challenging but fun way to build camaraderie amongst you and your peers," said Maj. Molly Chester, Adventure Race VIII event coordinator. "Also, training for this event will prepare you mentally and physically to take on the daily challenges in your work place, or even in preparation for a deployment."

Although last year's event rounded up 72 teams, this year Chester said their goal is to have 85 teams enter.

Registration fees are $100 for extreme teams and $120 for relay teams and are due by April 13. Additionally, each team must provide their own bikes and biking gear, such as helmets, eye protection and team vehicles. Rafts, paddles and life jackets will be provided for all teams.

To register for the event, go to www.laughlinservices.com, Laughlin's Outdoor Recreation office, Losano Fitness Center Wednesday's from 6 to 10 a.m. or Anderson Hall Thursday's from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
