Military Saves Week officially kicked off world-wide Feb. 19 and will run through Feb. 26. Laughlin's Airman and Family Readiness Center will be hosting events throughout the week and have booths around base encouraging the entire military community to focus on financial readiness.

The Military Saves Campaign is part of America Saves Week, which is an annual event intended to help people become better financial planners.

Agencies at military installations around the world are sponsoring financial fairs, having speakers and are working with on-base credit unions and banks, military exchanges and commissaries to build awareness of the importance of financial knowledge.

"The theme this year is 'Set a Goal, Make a Plan, Save Automatically,'" said Heather Blair, 47th Force Support Squadron. "Military Saves Week is a yearly national campaign to persuade, motivate, and encourage military families to save money every month."

Aliyah Negley, Laughlin AFRC, said the AFRC will have booths set up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Losano Fitness Center and Consolidated Student Activity Learning Center Feb. 21 through Feb. 24 and financial classes will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Feb. 21, Feb. 22 and Feb. 24 at the AFRC.

"We want everyone in the Laughlin community to save money automatically each month. Having savings means you can weather unexpected events, buy the things you need and want with cash rather than credit and also have a good retirement," Blair said.
