TH-1H to make stop in Del Rio Published Jan. 6, 2012 By Senior Airman Scott Saldukas 47th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Fort Rucker TH-1H Helicopter Road Show is scheduled to land at Pico Aviation at Del Rio International Airport Jan. 8 from 3 to 5 p.m. and is open to the general public. The event will is designed to educate students and on-lookers about possible opportunities in the aviation industry. "Laughlin has made it a priority to reach out to the community and educate others about our mission and its impact in the global theater," said Capt. Willie Lloyd, 47th Operations Group executive officer. "The intent is that this will supplement that message and create an opportunity for our community to see firsthand how Laughlin's mission impacts operations in theater." While the visiting airframe's capabilities have a variety of rescue capabilities, its mission here will be to explain the possible opportunities to future aviation enthusiasts. "Educating the youth is a shared responsibility between the base and community," Lloyd said. "Events such as these teach students the importance of doing well in school, setting goals and striving for excellence. These experiences will foster a strong relationship between the base, the youth and our educators while developing future community leaders." The road show will have helicopter pilots from diverse backgrounds to answer questions regarding their helicopter flying experience's that will range from downed Airmen behind enemy lines, training other nations' Air Forces and helping with other rescue's. "This is a great opportunity for us to showcase the Air Force's capabilities and highlight potential career opportunities for students in Del Rio," said Col. Andrew Brabson, 47th OG commander. "We don't always have the chance to show the local community what we do first hand so I think this is a great way to give back."
