Air Education and Training Command is scheduled to complete a compliance inspection of the 47th Flying Training Wing in September 2012.

Although the inspection is 10 months away, units throughout the wing should start preparing for the inspection. Each member of Team XL plays a role in helping their unit and the wing demonstrate full compliance with the inspection standards.

The first step in preparing for the inspection is to have an accurate picture of where your unit currently stands. This can be achieved by completing a self-inspection to identify where your unit is currently compliant and what sections need to be improved upon. It is important to make comments on every item in the self inspection checklist, even when the inspection question is not applicable to your unit. These comments prove to the inspectors that your unit is still in compliance.

For answers marked as not in compliance, determine why, formulate a plan to fix it and then execute the plan. If there is something beyond your control that prevents you from making the fix, notify your leadership. Part of leadership's role is to ensure all of Team XL has the tools to complete their tasks.

During the inspection, the inspectors will look for evidence of past, present and future compliance. Documenting compliance within programs is necessary to earning an outstanding rating. It is better to over-document now and remove unnecessary items later than to have to create documentation at the last minute or months after the inspection.

Therefore, it is important to begin preparing now. Become familiar with inspection processes and understand your role within your unit. Showing a true knowledge and confidence in our established practices will leave a lasting first impression of Team XL on the inspectors. Finally, remember that everyone plays a role in preparing for the inspection and earning an outstanding rating.
