A special duty briefing was held at Anderson Hall here Oct. 20 to provide information on applying to be an Air Force recruiter, military training instructor, military training leader or professional military education instructor.

This briefing invited all enlisted personnel base-wide to increase their awareness of special duty assignments available and the benefits, such as stable non-deployment status and location preferences.

Master Sgt. Wil Scrivner, Headquarters Air Force Recruiting, Master Sgt. Eric Gaona, 737th Training Group MTI, and Staff Sgt. Joseph Green, 37th Training Group MTL, all came to Laughlin to brief information about their respective career fields.

Master Sgt. Mary Navarro-Davis, 47th Force Support Squadron superintendent of career development, also briefed Professional Military Education opportunities.

Master Sgt. Lyman Howard, 47th Flying Training Wing career assistance advisor, organized the event. "This was a chance for airmen to learn about what special duty opportunities they have and for supervisors to educate their airmen on the same opportunities," said Howard.

"Special duty allows for Airmen to hone their leadership and time management skills and to grow professionally," said Scrivner.

Goana noted that we all want our Airmen to continue to grow as leaders and special duty allows them to do that. Also when we recruit the best Airmen to become MTIs, they in turn mold trainees into the best right out of basic military training.

"It is beneficial to increase awareness of special duty so all of our personnel can make an informed decision concerning their career path," noted Green.
