Laughlin's frame shop is now accepting submissions for a world-wide, multi-service photography contest from now until Dec. 30.

The contest is sponsored by the Air Force Services Agency Directorate of Programs who have revamped this year's event from what used to be two separate contests into one.

"This new event is less about competition and more about recognition on the Air Force Services gallery," said John Day, frame and woodcraft store manager.

"This contest is a great opportunity for photographers and artists of any age and skill level to gain some great recognition for their work," said Day. The contest includes three age groups and three categories.

"The age groups are youth ages seven to 12, teenagers ages 13 to 17 and adult ages 18 and above. Any Department of Defense identification card holders and their dependents are eligible to compete," Day said.

There can be up to three submissions in the categories craft, photography and digital art.
Craft art may be fine art, painting, weaving, pottery, jewelry and anything else that one does that can be considered artistic, he said.

Photography is no longer restricted into subcategories so photos can be of almost anything from pictures of nature to military people at work.

Digital art is a new category for the contest this year and encompasses many forms of computer generated images as well as photography manipulation. All images must be less than or equal to 500 pixels and in .rgb format and on a compact disc, said Day.

Day plans on having local level awards for personnel who enter the contest.

"If a contestant is selected as a winner at the Air Force level, the recognition of having their work displayed on the Air Force Services gallery 24, seven, 365 is quite an accomplishment," said Day.
