Members of Laughlin's enlisted force were invited recently to attend a dinner at the Del Rio chapter of the Elks Lodge.

Ten Airmen from Laughlin's enlisted dormitories attended the event held at the Elks' facility in Del Rio Aug. 13.

"We have been privileged to attend many events that recognized Laughlin's student pilots, but we had never participated in an event for the enlisted members working at Laughlin," explained Steve Rosalez, 47th Maintenance Directorate and Elks Lodge member.

Rosalez contacted Laughlin's chapel, which hosts a monthly appreciation dinner for dorm residents, and with the help of Laughlin's senior enlisted leadership and first sergeants, the event was scheduled.

"It was a great experience," said Airman 1st Class Anthony Nelson, 47th Comptroller Squadron. "Many of the Elks are veterans and they told us stories of when they served."

The Elks Lodge is active in many programs that support veterans, disabled and underprivileged children and their communities and Nelson said the Elks informed the Airmen of the many volunteer opportunities they offer.

Alan Alexander, Elks Lodge exalted ruler, and Rosalez ended the event by presenting the Airmen with a plaque, honoring their service to their country.
