Texas A&M University's head football coach, Mike Sherman, will speak at 1 p.m. July 18 at Anderson Hall auditorium to share his philosophy on leadership.

Sherman has been coaching football for 33 years leading multiple high school, college and professional football teams. He has a record of 57-37 with the Green Bay Packers over six years. Sherman also has a record of 19-19 with the Texas A&M Aggies and has led them to two bowl games over the past three years.

The coach began as an assistant coach for high school students in 1978 at Stamford High School in Connecticut. By 1981, Sherman moved on to college football as a graduate assistant at the University of Pittsburgh. He began coaching for the Green Bay Packers in 1997. In 2008, Sherman returned to college football as head coach for Texas A&M University.

Aside from football, Sherman supported the U.S. Armed Forces. In May 2010, Sherman took a weeklong trip to Iraq to visit deployed troops at his own expense.

While on his trip, Sherman visited U.S. troops in Iraq and Baghdad. He also visited former Aggies at Camp Victory in Iraq. Sherman wanted to say thanks to all the troops for their service.

Sherman came from a military family. His father and uncle served in World War II, and his grandfather served in World War I.

Sherman will share his thoughts on successful leadership with Laughlin. He has given previous leadership lectures over the past three years at different universities to familiarize students with themselves as leaders.
