Laughlin's Leaning Pine Golf Course now offers Wine and Tees on Tuesday nights at 6:30 p.m., an exclusive event for women interested in playing golf.

During Wine and Tees, participants will learn golf etiquette, receive instructions on how to play golf and have one-on-one attention for developing and improving golf skills. The cost of the event is $10, which covers playing three holes of golf with instruction, green fees, a golf cart and golf clubs if needed. After playing golf, a wine and cheese social takes place.

"This is a great opportunity for the women of Laughlin to learn something new and meet other women from the base in a fun, relaxed social environment," said 1st Lt. Amy McInteer, 47th Force Support Squadron golf course manager. "Wine and Tees will provide the basics skills needed to start playing golf with spouses or friends."

Instructions during Wine and Tees are given by Kat Rawald, 47th FSS recreation assistant. Rawald said she was first introduced to golf when she was four years old and served as her grandfather's caddy. Since then, she hasn't stopped playing.

"For me, I enjoy the game of golf rather than the sport. The competitive nature of a sport can take the fun out of the game and that intimidates a lot of women," said Rawald. "Through Wine and Tees, I hope to help women just feel confident being on the course. We're all capable of playing the game, we just need the opportunity to learn."

During the first session, Rawald explained what the different golf clubs are and how to decide which club to use. Next, the ladies played two holes of golf and learned the basics of teeing off and getting a feel for the different clubs.

The first session received rave reviews from participants.

"The fear of being on the golf course was completely eliminated after today. We all made mistakes, laughed and had a great time learning together," said Veronica McCoy, 47th FSS secretary.

Although there are no limits to the number of women who participate in Wine and Tees, the golf course requests reservations are made in advance, said McInteer.
