A friendly game of horseshoes between Laughlin's chief master sergeants and first sergeants took place June 15 in front of the enlisted dormitories here.

The game was meant to build morale among Laughlin's enlisted members. Free food was offered to anyone who wanted to attend the event and enlisted members were encouraged to do so.

"It's nice because it gets people out of their offices and gives us a chance to mingle amongst our peers," said Master Sgt. Lyman Howard, 47th Force Support Squadron.

Sergeant Howard said he was pleased with the number of Airmen that were able to come out.

The competition was decided by a best-two-out-of-three format and was won by the first sergeants. Their victory will be recorded on a plaque that hangs in Laughlin's Jack's Place.

This is the second recreation-type game between the chiefs and first sergeants to take place in the last few weeks. The first was a basketball free throw competition, which was also won by the first sergeants.

More friendly matches are set to take place periodically throughout the year.

"These games are definitely going to keep happening. It's really about building morale, not about winning," said Master Sgt. Nick Kurpier, 47th Medical Group first sergeant.

Even though winning was not the most important aspect of the event, the games were very competitive.

"It is a friendly competition, but it's also for bragging rights," said Master Sgt. Jeff McGaffin, 47th Operations Group first sergeant.
