Athletes across the southwest are gearing up for Laughlin's Seventh Annual Adventure Race Sat. April 9.

The triathlon-style race consists of a 26-mile bike ride from Laughlin to Lake Amistad, a grueling seven mile trail run and finishes as teams paddle a raft two miles across Lake Amistad.

Competitors can choose between two different race divisions to participate in: relay and extreme. The relay consists of five to eight team members while extreme consists of four team members. Relay team members will swap out with each other during the race, while extreme team members must complete the entire course.

"The race is great for team camaraderie as well as a tough physical challenge for all people," said Capt. Jennifer Moore, 47th Operations Support Squadron, Adventure Race co-director.

The entry fee for each team is $100. Additionally, each team must provide their own bikes and biking gear, such as helmets, eye protection and team vehicles. Rafts, paddles and life jackets will be provided for all teams.

Currently, 38 teams have stepped up to the challenge, which projects this year's race to be one of the biggest. But Capt. Robert Moore, 47th OSS, Adventure Race co-director, insists there is still room for more competition and hopes to see a team representing each air force base in Texas and many others.

"The event will be more competitive with teams from different bases, and it will showcase all that Laughlin and Del Rio have to offer," said Capt. Robert Moore.
