Two Boy Scout leaders brought boxes of donated popcorn to the wing headquarters building here on Thursday to show their support for Laughlin's Airmen.

"We wanted to send popcorn to our local bases to show support to our local troops. This is a little bit of a thank you for what the troops do for us," said Rick Reeve, scout executive for Concho Valley Council Boy Scouts.

The Concho Valley Council is based out of San Angelo, Texas and includes about 24 counties in southern Texas with approximately 2,500 youth members and approximately 1,000 registered volunteers. These Boy Scouts take part in outdoor activities such as camping and hiking.

"We know that boys joining scouting to have fun, but along the scouting trail something very important happens. Scouting helps youth grow in citizenship, physical fitness and commitment to God and country," said Reeve. "Scouting also teaches our youth the importance of helping other people at all times and instills in our next generation of leaders the importance of community."

Supporting the military is another value taught to Boy Scouts. In fact, Boy Scouts who earn the highest honor of Eagle Scout may receive advanced rank in the military if they enlist. Girl Scouts awarded the USA Gold Award are also eligible to enlist with advanced rank.

Boy Scouts also use their popcorn fundraiser to support the troops. Popcorn can be donated to local service members and can also be sent to service members deployed overseas.

"Gifts like this mean a lot to our Airman's morale, said Chief MSgt. Raymond Devite, 47th Flying Training Wing Command Chief. "Even a small token of appreciation is enough to make an Airman's face light up and feel proud for their service to this great country."
