Wingman Day: A model of resiliency Published Feb. 1, 2011 By Machelle Terrell 47th Flying Training Wing LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The 47th Maintenance Directorate kicked off their Wingman Day Saturday, Jan. 29 with more than 200 people in attendance. Michael Johnson, 47th MX director, started the day off by emphasizing how valuable team cohesiveness is to not only the upcoming Logistics Compliance Assessment Program but also to ensure a safe and enjoyable work environment. Colonel Michael Frankel, 47th Flying Training Wing commander, uses Wingman Day to reinforce resiliency that ensures we remain the preeminent Flying Training Wing in the United States Air Force. Colonel Frankel has designated a pause for a half day in February from Laughlin's day- to-day mission to reinforce the Wingman concept, help build resilient Airman and focus on unit health. Each unit's Wingman Day will include a commander's briefing, small group activities and team-building exercises such as a sporting event, recreation event or process improvement exercise. The 47th MX Wingman Day focused on how to better watch out for each other, including checking aircrews for hearing protection, personal protection equipment, reflective belts during hours of darkness and proper flight line driving safety. "The day allowed for a communal understanding of how important each member of the team is to all the others and that only when we are all working together and covering for one another will we truly succeed," said Johnson. In succeeding they have learned to overcome and model resiliency, Johnson said. Upcoming Wingman Days are as follows: 86th Flying Training Squadron - Feb. 4 Contracting Squadron - Feb. 10 - 11 Civil Engineering Squadron - Feb. 11 Logistics Readiness Division - Feb. 14 Force Support Squadron - Feb. 16 - 17 Medical Group - Feb. 16 & 18 Wing Staff Agency - Feb. 25 Remaining Operations Group - Feb. 28
