The event that provoked the United States to enter World War II and subsequently changed the course of history was remembered in Del Rio Dec. 7.

Veterans, active duty military members and supporters of the U.S. military, including Del Rio mayor Bobby Fernandez and Val Verde county judge Mike Fernandez, were in attendance to show their support and to remember the lives lost during the attacks at Pearl Harbor on the morning of Dec. 7, 1941.

Lieutenant Colonel David Cool, 47th Operations Group deputy commander, was the key note speaker for the event.

"There are certain times that make us as military members, and as Americans, reflect on what it means to sacrifice," said Lt. Col. Cool in his speech. "Dec. 7 is one of those days."

Robert Wade, 47th Flying Training Wing staff, gave his renditions of the National Anthem and "I'm Proud to Be an American".

"I've traveled to many events where these songs are performed and no one sings these songs better than Robert," said Burt Augirre, the emcee for the event.

Laughlin's Honor Guard presented the colors for the event and the San Felipe Del Rio Veterans Honor Guard performed a 21-gun salute following the ceremony.
