Laughlin's wing chapel and Airman and Family Readiness Center were vandalized in the early morning hours of Dec. 2.

There was significant damage both inside and outside both facilities. Doors, windows, and a nativity scene outside the chapel were damaged.

"We are devastated and disappointed but not defeated," said Chaplain (Maj.) Dwayne Kenner, 47th Flying Training Wing chapel. "Ministry will still happen for the Laughlin community and folks who attend our services as though nothing happened."

A Laughlin law enforcement official said that after an initial assessment, the damage could be in the "tens of thousands of dollars."

Colonel Michael Frankel, 47th FTW commander, said that the vandals will be caught and appropriately punished.

Base officials have been tasked with the investigation. An investigator said that it is believed that sometime between 2 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Dec. 2 is when the crimes were committed.

"Every effort will be taken to ensure that whoever violated these agencies will be swiftly sought out and punished," said Maj. Ian Dinesen, 47th SFS commander. "These crimes will not be taken lightly."

At this point, no motives have been sighted or suspects named.

"Our forgiveness and prayers go out to whoever did this. We're here to help them too," said Chaplain Keener.
