December's seemingly endless drizzle, dense fog, bone-chilling cold and distance from family can dampen anyone's Christmas spirit.

A group of volunteers delivered a dose of Christmas spirit to many single active-duty members on base Dec. 7 to Dec. 9. Gift bags filled with Christmas cookies circulated the dorms and base housing for the enjoyment of single Airmen.

Many of Laughlin's wives selflessly volunteered to bake more than 6,000 cookies to give out to single active duty members. Each volunteer baked up to 20 dozen cookies. The Laughlin Officers' Spouses' Club then bagged and gift wrapped the cookies.

Nicole Rollins, a member of the LOSC board, headed up the project and expressed her appreciation for the sacrifice that many servicemen and women here at Laughlin make, especially during this time of year.

"Everyone misses their families at Christmas, so we were just trying to give them a feeling of home," said Mrs. Rollins.

There is no doubt that the efforts of the Laughlin volunteers are appreciated. Second Lt. Steve Piasta, 47th Operational Support Squadron, was pleasantly surprised to come home to the gift bag hanging on his door.

"It really did brighten my day," said Lt. Piasta. "Acts like this really show why Laughlin is a tight knit community and I am happy to be a part of it."

Although it is not possible for everyone to make it home for the holidays, the efforts of Mrs. Rollins and so many others have reminded everyone at Laughlin that they're still around family - their Air Force family.
