Every fall, federal employees are given the opportunity to donate money to thousands of charities through the Combined Federal Campaign.

This year's campaign at Laughlin runs from Oct. 6 to Nov. 6.

According to www.omp.gov, CFC is the world's largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign, with more than 300 CFC campaigns throughout the country and internationally to help to raise millions of dollars each year.

The 47th Flying Training Wing's 2009 goal is to raise $67,670, which is an increase from last year's goal of $63,618. Last year, the wing raised $117,431.86, which was almost double the established goal.

This time around, the goal is only slightly higher than it was last year, but the expectations to surpass the goal are as lofty as ever.

"Hopefully, through the motivation of our key workers, we can exceed our goal to help support all the good things these charities do," said 2nd Lt. Michelle Mahar, 47th Force Support Squadron customer support flight chief. "These organizations don't just reach out to national and international needs, but they also support our community and neighbors and come to their aid when they need it."

The CFC planning committee is also working to personally contact everyone on base and make them aware of the campaign. Through their efforts, Lieutenant Mahar said that 100 percent of Laughlin's residents and workers should know about the purpose of the CFC which is, according to www.opm.gov, to promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee focused, cost-efficient, and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all.

"Not everyone has to donate, but everyone should be contacted," said Lieutenant Mahar.

Pledges made by Federal civilian, postal and military donors during the campaign season, September 1st to December 15th, support eligible non-profit organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world.
