Library hosts cooking contest

Laughlin's Bookmark Library hosted a cooking contest here for teens to wrap up the Teen Summer Reading Series, "Express Yourself," July 29.

In order to participate, each entrant brought their cooked dishes to the library for judging along with a hand-written recipe. The dishes were judged on taste, appearance and creativity by Sue Blankemeyer, base librarian; Rebecca Jaeger, 47th Force Support Squadron marketing assistant, and Jacob Lozano, library summer hire.

The winning dishes were William Huber's first-place stir-fry with tofu, Ben Jackey's second-place fudge and Sarah Jackey's third place blonde brownies.

Other events held throughout the summer in support of the reading program included a jewelry-making class, a ceiling-tile art session and a movie day.

"This year's program turned out to be a very successful, diverse program and I know the participants and library staff had a lot of fun with it," said Blankemeyer.

Blankemeyer also mentioned that all those who participated in the reading programs throughout the summer are invited to an ice cream social Aug. 18 at 1 p.m. at the base library. Individuals who completed the programs will receive their prizes during the social.
