Laughlin Idol set to take over Club XL Published May 13, 2009 By Airman 1st Class Sara Csurilla 47th Flying Training Wing public affairs LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Do you have a talent? Do you want to prove to others that your talent is the best and win a prize for it? Now's your chance! Laughlin's Air Force Sergeant's Association is partnering with Club XL to showcase Laughlin Idol, a free talent contest for the community May 16. "This is an event you do not want to miss out on," said Senior Airman Nikkina Bellinger, Laughlin Idol coordinator. "We want people to come out and have fun, even if they don't compete. It is open to all Laughlin members, including active duty, retirees, civilians and any of their family members." There will be two sessions for Laughlin members to participate in. From 3 to 6 p.m. a children's session will take place for XLers 17 years of age and below to compete in. From 7 p.m. until "however long it takes to finish the competition" adults 18 years and older will compete, said Master Sgt. Miguel Ramirez, Laughlin's AFSA chapter 1069 president. "The event will offer a first, second and third place winner and all contestants will be judged by a panel of four judges, just like the real American Idol," said Airman Bellinger. "We are hoping for a lot of people to sing for the contest but we are welcoming all talents, from guitar to tap dance." This is the first talent show Laughlin has had in more than two years and Airmen around Laughlin are already signing up as contestants, but Sergeant Ramirez is hoping for a lot more. Contestants are encouraged to register prior to the event but entries will also be accepted at the door. "We are so excited for Laughlin Idol," Airman Bellinger said with a huge smile on her face. "There was a Laughlin Idol a few years back, and it was one of the funniest and most entertaining events I had ever been to here. I really can't wait to see all the different performances people have to offer."
