April 29 marked the final day of Laughlin's six-week campaign to raise money for the Air Force Assistance Fund.

By the end of that final day, it was clear that not only did Laughlin reach their goal for the campaign; they shattered it by raising nearly $38,000.

"For this year's campaign we set out with the goal of $29,400," said Capt. Brad Woehrlen, AFAF project officer from the 47th Security Forces Squadron. "But we finished with more than 130 percent of our goal, and I couldn't be more proud of Laughlin for all their contributions."

The AFAF is an annual campaign held among all Air Force installations to raise funds for charitable affiliates that provide support to Air Force families in need, said Staff Sgt. Ivette Walter, a unit project officer, from the 47th Medical Group.

Charitable organizations include the Enlisted Village Foundation that offers housing and financial assistance to widows of enlisted Air Force members, the Air Force Village Foundation, a military officers retirement community, the Air Force Aid Society, a charity that provides emergency assistance for Air Force members and their families and the General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation that helps widows of all Air Force Retirees, both officers and enlisted, through financial grants of assistance.

"These organizations help our Air Force family everyday throughout the entire year, so visiting and collecting from so many giving people was more than worth the effort to help my Air Force family," said Sergeant Walter. "It feels really good to be a part, I feel like I did my part to help."

Unit project officers personally visited everyone in their unit and provided information on how people could donate toward the AFAF.

"By contributing to these charities, Laughlin members have directly helped their fellow Air Force members and their families, and helping Airmen is really what it's all about" said Captain Woehrlen. "The more we collect every year the more there is to help Airmen."
