Every fall, federal employees are given the opportunity to donate money to thousands of charities through the Combined Federal Campaign.

This year, the 47th Flying Training Wing's goal of raising $63,618 was smashed when members of team XL donated a total of $117,431.86. The final amount was a staggering 185 percent of the wing's goal.

"The campaign went really well this year," said Capt. Jason Barta, 2008 Val Verde County CFC program coordinator. "We have some very generous people at this base."

The 47th FTW has a history of surpassing its fundraising goals. For the 2007 CFC, Laughlin raised $107,179.10, 178 percent of the $60,230 goal for that year.

Captain Barta said the 47th Maintenance Directorate raised the most money this year, donating $22,451.56, 118 percent of their goal. One unit, however, bested their goal by more than 700 percent.

Due to the small number of people assigned to the 434th Fighter Training Squadron, they were only expected to raise $725. Amazingly, the 24 members dug deep and donated $5,156.80, 711 percent of their goal.

The captain said the annual CFC is a great opportunity for federal employees to easily donate to the charity of their choice, with thousands to choose from. Many of the charities directly benefit members of the Air Force, Armed Forces and local community.
