The Harlem Ambassadors, a traveling entertainment basketball team, visited Laughlin Air Force Base with their humorous basketball show Feb. 19 at the Losano Fitness Center.

The Ambassadors, internationally known for their fancy ball handling, thrilled the audience, which included members from the local community, after putting up a show full of comedy, games and entertaining routines.

"It was a fantastic show," said Master Sgt. Stephen Kazmirski, 47th Mission Support Group's first sergeant. "It was a show that was fun for all ages."

The show commenced with the presentation of the Colors by Del Rio's Junior ROTC, and nine citizens from the Delayed Enlisted Program who were sworn in at the center of the base gym.

Col. John Doucette, 47th Flying Training Wing commander, administered the oath of enlistment for the new recruits, accompanied by their proud families and the local Air Force recruiters.

The enlistment ceremony was followed by a friendly match between the Harlem Ambassadors and the Laughlin varsity team.

"The Harlem Ambassadors showed great talent, showmanship and fan involvement," said Anthony McKinney, the Laughlin varsity team coach. "I smiled and laughed because they reminded me of the old Harlem Globetrotters. The Laughlin leadership team and varsity team showed great sportsman-like conduct, and they helped make the show fun and entertaining."

The ambassadors also entertained the audience during breaks with various dance routines, fun games and even interacted with the children in attendance with a game of musical chairs.

During the game, the spectators encouraged captivating and jaw-dropping dunks with their applause.

In the second half, several base leaders, ranging from first sergeants and squadron commanders to the vice wing commander, battled the Ambassadors in a comedy-filled, friendly game.

"It was great to be able take part in the show," said Sergeant Kazmirski, a member of the Laughlin leadership team. "It's all about having a good time and entertaining the audience. I was happy to be able to put smiles on some faces."

The show was organized by the 47th Services Division.
