Laughlin banks $10,000; Best in Air Force Published Feb. 5, 2008 By Airman 1st Class Sara Csurilla 47th Flying Training Wing LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Air Force wide, there is a common slogan among base clubs that goes, "It pays to be a member." That slogan proved to be true, as Laughlin was recently awarded $10,000 for winning the Air Force's best performance on club membership Drive. "This success is due not only to the creative tiered membership approach, but also loads of hard work by folks in the 47th Force Support Squadron," said Col. Roger Thrasher, 47th Mission Support Group commander. "The other vital piece is that the group and squadron commanders were completely supportive; their personal leadership and example made all the difference." A breakthrough for the Air Force, Laughlin's FSS created and implemented a new three tiered approach to club membership. The new, three tiered approach is aimed at tailoring membership to individual Airmen of all ranks and pay grades. The three different levels, blue, silver, and gold, offer different annual fees and incentives to allow Airmen to choose which membership level will best suit their needs. Some of the incentives include rewards such as personal check cashing, regular discounts on food and beverages and even free tickets to exclusive club events. "The new tiered membership program was a tremendous help in recruiting new members but ultimately, the feat is thanks to our members," said Larry Garrett, Club XL manager. "Without them, we're nothing." The Club's annual membership goal was to obtain 44 new members for 2007. After generating a total of 220 club membership accounts, Laughlin exceeded their goal by 400 percent. The $10,000 award will be used to upgrade and improve both Club XL and Club Amistad. However, to show their appreciation there will be a membership celebration 4 to 7 p.m. Feb. 12 said Mr. Garrett. This will be an exclusive member's only event, however the club will be ready to sign-up new members at the door.
