It's the life of a military spouse. One day your spouse is there helping to take care of everyday responsibilities, and then the next, they're deployed, fighting for their country, doing what we've all signed up for.

In order to keep morale high among Laughlin's deployed spouses, the 47th Force Support Squadron's Airman and Family Readiness Center sponsors a "Deployed Spouse's Spa Day" at Su Casa once a year.

January 12 marked this year's annual "Spa Day." The event kicked-off at 12:30 p.m. with spouses entering Su Casa only to be amazed by the transformation that had taken place there. Su Casa, a building that is normally used to host meetings and get-togethers, had transformed into luxurious spa.

The transformation included a room dedicated to almost every aspect of a day spa including facials, a full hair salon, massage therapy and yoga.

The "Spa Day" was done in conjunction with "Give Parents a Break and Creative Day/Night" so that spouses' children had something to keep them entertained as well, said Andrew Posey, Airman and Family Readiness Center.

With no children running around and the opportunity to socialize with others in similar situations, relaxation could be felt in every corner of Su Casa.

While waiting for the paraffin wax to dry on their hands, spouses traded stories of their different experiences, helping each other through their times of hardship.

"This Spa event is one of the ways we can recognize the significant contributions that husbands and wives make to the Air Force when their spouse is deployed," said Mr. Posey. "Having to assume the role of both spouses during a deployment, Spa Day is Laughlin Air Force Base's way to pamper them during or after the inevitable stress that a separation brings."

After receiving VIP treatment for hours, and getting the opportunity to meet and talk with others in the same situation, everyone was treated to hors d'oeuvres, warm neck wraps, free slippers and gift bags to cap-off their blissful day.

"I think I speak for all of us at the Airman and Family Readiness Center when I say it's immensely satisfying to be able to help people while their spouse are deployed," said Mr. Posey.
