Laughlin AFB senior airman, staff, technical, master and senior master sergeants will have a better chance at promotion in the upcoming promotion cycle, if they apply the Weighted Airman Promotion System suggestions found in the front of the new Professional Development Guide.

The new Professional Development Guide is needed for the general knowledge part of the promotion test, and is useful as a reference for your military career. If you have a question, look in there first. Use it to answer any questions about how the system works. The first 22 pages have some great study tips!

Pay close attention to the compromise statement of individual study for promotion. This book is available in CD and MP3 downloadable versions. See your Unit WAPS Monitors or myself for all the details.

The next important step is to read is AFI 36-2605 1.19 Individual Responsibilities, and use "a self-initiated program of individual study and effort to advance their career under WAPS." Confirm the dates of the Career Development Course material for WAPS in the current WAPS catalog. The skill knowledge portion of the test for your career field, will be based on this material. Most of those in a special duty status will test PFE only.

Before the promotion eligibility cutoff date, everyone should visit the virtual MPF and confirm their Data Verification Record is up to date.

Be prepared to test the first day of the cycle. The knowledge you gain through being prepared, is one of the things that makes the USAF the best Air Force in the world. Let your supervisor know the date you are scheduled for testing as soon as you are notified, so that he or she can plan for your absence.
