New boats have arrived at Laughlin Air Force Base's Southwinds Marina on Lake Amistad, and they're making a splash.

The Marina recently added three new ski boats, two fishing boats, and two pontoon boats to their rental boat lineup.

"The ski boats are great improvements over the older models, and they include improved stability," said Mike Easterly, Chief of Community Services with the 47th FSS. A wider, more comfortable rear bench seat is sheltered by a sun shade, which provides passengers relief from the Southwest Texas sun. Each of the three new ski boats is also equipped with a compact disc, FM/AM stereo system.

"The new fishing boats are some of the best on the market today," said Mr. Easterly. "They feature a 60-horsepower four-stroke outboard motor, and a battery-powered trolling motor, along with a fish finder and two live wells," he said.

Two new pontoon boats will also offer accommodations geared toward fishing groups of up to eight people. Mr. Easterly said trolling motors and fish finders will be added to these boats as well. In place of inward facing bench seats at the bow, the new models have swiveling pedestal seats, providing more floor space, and a more convenient arrangement for fishing.

"No matter what your pleasure at Lake Amistad, the selection of boats at the Southwinds Marina is sure to be able to provide an enjoyable experience," said Mr. Easterly. In addition to the new boats, the marina offers other skiing and fishing equipment rentals on an hourly or per-day basis.

All of the new boats are now available for rental. They can be reserved after completing the boating safety course at the marina, by calling the Southwinds Marina at (830) 775-7800. Additional information and rates are also available through the services website, www.laughlinservices.com
