Enlisted singles are invited to a free social gathering at 7 p.m. July 28 at the dorms adjacent to the library.

Sponsored by the Laughlin Chapel, "Hootenanny Deluxe," as the event is being called, will give unaccompanied enlisted Airmen a chance to "get together for free food and dynamic music with a positive message," said Chaplain (Capt.) Shannon Workman, Protestant chaplain.

"We as the chapel have felt the need for a unique ministry with a special emphasis on single and unaccompanied Airmen," he said. "We have a hope as a chapel to make a connection with the enlisted community and provide even more opportunities for fellowship with others."

According to the chaplain, Hootenanny Deluxe is a unique ministry, but is not exclusive to Christians.

Chaplain Workman said those in attendance can expect to eat grilled hotdogs and hamburgers, hang out and listen to great music.

Hootenanny Deluxe is merely the first of several scheduled events designed to meet the needs for Airmen for "social interaction and celebration," Chaplain Workman said.

Chaplain (Capt.) Marshall MacClellan, 47th Operations Group chaplain, said events are in the works for officers as well, such as monthly burger burns at Anderson Hall that could begin as early as October.

"We just want to let these guys know that God loves them, cares about them and knows what they're going through," he said.
