Laughlin Air Force Base's fiscal year 2006 economic impact on the surrounding community is valued at more than $284 million, according to a recently released base economic impact statement.
Laughlin is the largest employer in the Del Rio area. In fiscal 2006, the base generated employment for nearly 1,350 people in indirect jobs and supported direct employment for about 2,700 people with payrolls totaling more than $132 million.
Laughlin wouldn't be what it is today without the tremendous support of the community, said Col. Dan Laro Clark, 47th Flying Training Wing vice commander.
"The support we receive from the local community enhances our partnership and ensures we provide the best undergraduate pilot training for the United States and its allies, and are ready to support our Air Expeditionary Forces worldwide," said Colonel Clark. "As the high tempo of the Department of Defense continues, Laughlin is reminded of and appreciates the continuous support our neighbors and friends exhibit and provide each day."
Laughlin's 47th Flying Training Wing Comptroller Squadron accomplishes the economic impact analysis every fiscal year. According to comptroller officials, all Air Force installations accomplish impact statements to assist commanders in accessing their bases' effect on the local economy.
