October Family Advocacy Classes Published Sept. 30, 2015 By 47th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The 47th Medical Group is offering a series of free family advocacy classes open to all base personnel, ranging in topics from baby care to stress management classes, throughout the month of October. -Obstetrics Orientation and "Bundles for Babies": This class is an overview of what to expect during pregnancy. Participants will receive information related to the prenatal period, labor and delivery and post-partum. Spouses are encouraged to attend. This class is mandatory for all pregnant active duty members. "Bundles for Babies" is included in coordination with the Laughlin Airman and Family Readiness Center. Pediatrics, Tricare, dental, and the Health & Wellness Center will brief on prenatal related topics. Lunch is provided for attendees. Registration is mandatory to attend. October 6, 2015 47th MDG Training Room 8:30 a.m. to noon -Teen Talk: This class will examine some of the issues teenagers face. Topics include: cyber bullying, building communication, wellness, abusive relationships and other topics which will interest teens. Youth do not have to be enrolled at the youth center to attend. October 9, 2015 Youth Center 6 to 7 p.m. -Second Trimester Class: This class provides information related to the second trimester. Handouts will be provided and spouses are encouraged to attend. October 13, 2015 47th MDG Training Room 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. -Effective Communication (for couples): This workshop helps you understand yourself and connect with your partner in more constructive, and meaningful ways. You will learn how to communicate effectively about day-to-day events and important issues. This class is designed for all ages and stages of a relationship. Whether engaged, recently married, or been married for many years, there is always something new to learn and aspects of the relationship to explore. October 15, 2015 Mental Health Training Room 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. -Breastfeeding Basics: This course will provide mothers with basic education on breastfeeding. October 20, 2015 47th MDG Training Room 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. -Parenting Essentials: This course will examine some of the issues parents face with teens and children such as: cyber bullying, communication, drugs and alcohol, suicide prevention and other topics of parental interest. October 10, 2015 Mental Health Training Room 11 a.m. to noon -Avoid Falling for a Jerk/Jerkette: This class will provide basics on how to build a relationship in a safe way, and in a way that you can get to know the key areas of a partner. October 27, 2015 Mental Health Training Room 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. To sign-up for a Laughlin class, call 298-6422. You must sign up for each class. Classes are cancelled the night prior if there are no participants signed up.
