The Losano Fitness Center here at Laughlin Air Force Base hosted a focus group for all weight room and advanced fitness users July 9, 2015 in the health promotions classroom.

This meeting served as a venue for actual users of the equipment to voice their opinion. Their opinions will help decide what equipment will stay, what will go, and what new equipment is needed.

"The previous surveys and focus groups have shown the fitness center staff the concern members have, and we wanted to conduct the focus group today to validate those concerns," said 2nd Lt. Cort Rogers, Force Support Squadron sustainment flight assistant.

Air Force Instruction 36-2905 states, "It is every Airman's responsibility to maintain the standards set forth in this AFI 365 days a year. Being physically fit allows you to properly support the Air Force mission. The goal of the Fitness Program (FP) is to motivate all members to participate in a year-round physical conditioning program that emphasizes total fitness, to include proper aerobic conditioning, muscular fitness training, and healthy eating."

"The feedback from the focus group will be accounted for in an official memorandum and reviewed by individuals with the capacity to make changes and acquisitions on behalf of the Losano Fitness Center," said Rogers.

1st Lt. Karl Hines, 47th Communication Squadron officer in charge of plans and resources, attended the focus group and had multiple suggestions. Hines utilizes the weight room three or more times a week for self-improvement.

"Working out helps me become a better airman. For me, working out relieves stress, improves my morale, and gives me a way to stay involved," said Hines.

Some improvements already made to the fitness center include changes to the locker rooms, new bars and weights, opening the outdoor pool for lap swimming.

"We try to take immediate action to improve the fitness center when and where it is possible," said Rogers.
