The base library, here, at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, will be offering events for children and adults from now until August 4, 2015.

These Department of Defense sponsored base library events occur annually with a changing theme. This year's theme is "Read to the Rhythm" and will involve activities such as music, dancing and singing.

"These programs are a way to avoid the summer slide and the loss of your reading skills," said Kristin Frank, the library aid and program coordinator.

The library even has something for children 0 to 5 years old called the "Read to Me Program". This program allows volunteers to read to the younger children that are not yet able to read on their own.

"The library is a cool, fun place to hang out. We have a good time, and there is something here for everyone," said Frank.

Everyone who registers will receive a free T-shirt, and for every book read, or every six hours of reading logged, members will receive other prizes such as maracas, drums, color changing mood pencils, tote bags, iPhone amplifiers and lanyards.

"With school being out, it is important to keep kids reading during the summer, and it gives them something to challenge their minds," said Sue Blanemeyer, the librarian here.

The library will also be offering a base scavenger hunt, and an ice cream party to cap off the summers programs on August 4.

The events take place in the library, room 202. For more information feel free to contact the library at 298-5119.
