Tax season is here Published Jan. 23, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Ariel D. Delgado 47th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas -- Starting Feb. 2, Laughlin's legal office will be taking appointments for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program for eligible military members, which include the military grades of E-1 to E-4 and O-1 to O-2. "We ask that interested service members call the legal office to set up an appointment when they have all of their necessary tax documents," said Capt. Douglas Hansen, 47th Flying Training Wing Judge Advocate chief of general law. "The W-2 forms are now available through MyPay." Services are free for eligible military members and there are also online services that give military members free or discounted tax services. A couple of free or discounted online services would include Military OneSource, and TurboTax. "All taxes are due by April 15, but I would suggest making an appointment and getting them done as early as possible" said Hansen. To get legal expertise and to make an appointment, members should contact the legal office once they have received all tax documents. The legal office is still accepting volunteers interested in the tax assistance program. For more information or to volunteer, contact the legal office at 298-5172.
